Trading

Matthew Maloney
Managing Director, Trader/Portfolio Manager

Mr. Maloney joined Gramercy in October 2014 and is Co-Head of Gramercy’s trading desk. He has over 17 years of trading and investment management experience predominantly in emerging markets. Along with Mr. Tackney, Mr. Maloney manages a dynamic trading desk spanning performing and distressed corporates and sovereigns, as well as credit default swaps and currency hedges.  He is a key member of the Alternatives portfolio management team, the Co-Portfolio Manager of the Gramercy Venezuela Opportunity Fund, and he constructs and executes a robust hedging program under the strategic direction of the CIO. Further, as Co-Head of the trading desk Mr. Maloney is charged with building and maintaining effective relationships with the Street in order to facilitate firm-wide trade execution, asset sourcing, new issue allocations, and idea generation. He is a member of the Investment Committee, Alternatives Allocation Committee and EMD Asset Allocation Committee.  Mr. Maloney reports to Robert Koenigsberger, CIO.

Prior to Gramercy, Mr. Maloney worked for 10 years as an emerging markets trader at Credit Suisse in the Fixed Income Division. There, he managed a five person corporate credit trading team, including two traders and three credit research personnel, who together covered 150 issuers. Further, Mr. Maloney facilitated the Fixed Income Division’s primary issuance business, introducing new deals via 84 transactions over his tenure.  Prior to Credit Suisse, Mr. Maloney was employed by Maloney Commodity Services (MCS) as an analyst. At MCS, he helped launch an absolute return hedge fund affiliated with State Street Global Finance.

Mr. Maloney received his Masters in Economics and International Affairs with an Emerging Markets Concentration from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and his BA in History with a Latin American Studies Concentration from the College of the Holy Cross. Additionally, Mr. Maloney is a CFA Charterholder.

Chris Tackney
Managing Director, Trader/Portfolio Manager

Mr. Tackney joined Gramercy in August 2016 as Co-Head of Gramercy’s trading desk. He has over 21 years of trading and portfolio management experience in emerging markets. Along with Mr. Maloney, Mr. Tackney manages a dynamic trading desk spanning performing and distressed corporates and sovereigns, as well as credit default swaps and currency hedges.  He is a key member of the Alternatives portfolio management team, and he constructs and executes a robust hedging program under the strategic direction of the CIO. Further, as Co-Head of the trading desk Mr. Tackney is charged with building and maintaining effective relationships with the Street in order to facilitate firm-wide trade execution, asset sourcing, new issue allocations, and idea generation. He is a member of the Investment Committee, Valuation Committee,   Alternatives Allocation Committee and EMD Asset Allocation Committee.  Mr. Tackney reports to Robert Koenigsberger, CIO.

Prior to joining Gramercy in August 2016, Mr. Tackney was the Head of Trading at Greylock Capital. Before Greylock, Mr. Tackney was Senior Portfolio Manager for emerging markets corporate bonds at Schroder Investment Management with responsibility for global emerging markets corporate investments. Previously, he worked at Credit Suisse with responsibility for Asia credit trading. Before Credit Suisse, Mr. Tackney was a Portfolio Manager for emerging markets corporate credit funds at Black-River Asset Management, actively managing corporate portfolios. Mr. Tackney started his career with 10 years at TIAA-CREF, ascending through roles in private placements and structured finance, ultimately managing an emerging markets sovereign and corporate fixed income securities portfolio.

Mr. Tackney received his MBA in Finance and Economics from New York University and his BA in Economics from Bucknell University. Additionally, Mr. Tackney is a CFA Charterholder.

James Conroy
Managing Director, Head of Business Intelligence and Analytics Group

Mr. Conroy has 18 years of industry experience. Mr. Conroy is responsible for attribution reporting, risk reporting and scenario analysis. He assists the Portfolio Managers and Traders on the desk and maintains the trading and analytics systems. Additionally, he assists in administering the network, maintaining the company’s websites, and developing internal applications.

Prior to joining Gramercy in August 2008, Mr. Conroy worked at Stop & Shop as a Senior Information Analyst, where he developed and administered multiple distributed applications, back-end interfaces with general ledgers and accounts payable, designed stand-alone financial reporting applications and maintained various other systems.

Mr. Conroy received a BS in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
